PRAYER

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

Jesus taught his disciples to pray and we see that continued in the many references to the importance the early Christians put on prayer throughout the bible.  Christians are encouraged to pray in all situations both as individuals and in groups.

In Cambourne Church we believe that prayer is an important aspect of Christian Life and would like to encourage all our members to pray in the following ways:

  • • starting the day with prayer and giving the day to God
  • • ending the day with gratitude and thanksgiving.
  • • saying grace before meals
  • • couples praying together
  • • praying with children.

Examples of possible prayers are suggested below but please feel free to pray in any way that would suit you. We do not want to be prescriptive.

When we speak God listens

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of Him."

1 John 5:14-15

A Prayer for Monday Morning

Worker ChristCeltic Cross

As we enter our workplace

may we bring your presence with us.

Equip us to speak your peace and order into its atmosphere. Remind us to acknowledge your authority over all that will be thought, decided and accomplished within it.

Give us a fresh supply of truth and beauty on which to draw as we work.

God bless the sky that is above us.

The earth that is beneath us.

Your image deep within us.

And the day that lies before us.

Amen

A Prayer of Awakening

May the God of time and eternity

who gave us twenty four hours in each day.
Enliven your senses so that you may truly

See what you are looking at
Taste what you are eating
Listen to what you are hearing
Face what you are suffering
Celebrate the ways that you are loved

And offer whatever you are doing to God.
So that the water of the present moment

may be turned into wine.
