Youth Work
Our youth work within the church is split into 2 groups – Xtreme and Zerubbabels.
- On Sunday mornings there is Xtreme which is for Secondary school age, with particular emphasis on 11 - 14 year olds. We meet during the 11:00 am service, starting at the Hub and walking over to ‘Cambourne Soul’ (the Youth Partnership building). Led by Jon Sanders and a team of volunteers.
- On alternate Monday evenings there is the bizarrely named Zerubbabels! This is a group for those in yrs 10-13 who wish to study the Bible, discuss issues, ask questions and deepen their faith. We meet at Jon’s house, Caxton, 7.30-9. Led by Jon Sanders and Rachel Leonard.
As well as these groups there are plenty of other activities for young people in Cambourne to get involved in. Cambourne young people are a part of much of the youth work put on by WCCYM (West Cambridge Christian Youth Ministries). WCCYM is run by a group of Youth workers in West Cambridge, working together for the young people in the area. Jon is Cambourne’s representative.
Synergy is the monthly youth event put on by young people in Cambourne and Papworth. It is a café format (with sundaes and smoothies – first drink free!). There is a live band made up of young people, as well as games, art, prayer, talk, discussion, etc. This is a chance for young people to find out more about God in a relaxed format, as well as encouraging young people to use their gifts for God. We meet in the Hub, Cambourne, on the 4th Sunday of every month, 7 - 8.30.
We also go monthly to a Youth service called Thirst which meets currently in Toft. Emphasis here is on singing worship to God and deepening understanding about God. This is every 2nd Sunday of the month, 7 – 8.30.
Soccer Sunday meets fortnightly at Comberton Village College and offers any footie-loving young person the chance to play football with other people their age. At half-time we have a breather and discuss sporting issues as well as how to be a Christian and a sports player. 4.30 – 6pm. £2.50 to cover costs.
Isaiah58 offers young people in Cambourne the chance to serve the community whether that be through litter sweeps, helping someone with their gardening, shopping, moving, decorating or anything else!
Crossover is the school Christian Union at Comberton Village College. We meet in one of the Geography rooms depending on which is available. Tuesdays is for yrs 7-9 and Thursdays is for yrs 9-11. We explore Christianity and discuss issues relating to it.
We also have Socials, both with WCCYM and just as Cambourne. Recent ones have included Tobogganing and a Cinema trip
Weekends Away. The first Cambourne Youth group weekend away happened in October 2007, much fun was had by all, as well as learning more about God. The WCCYM weekend away is in February 2008 and is always a great event.
