Cambourne Church V St Matthew’s Church, Cheltenham
4th July 2009

CambourneChurch’s second ever match was full of excitement and goal mouth action. Facing St Matthew’s from Cheltenham, Cambourne put up a good fight but ended losing 5-2.  Thanks to those who came to watch and to those who organised the “Braai” (South African BBQ) afterwards.

Cambourne Church 1 Bluntisham Baptists 3

Sunday 20th July 2008

A wonderful opening first 45 minutes which saw some slick passing moves was rounded off nicely by a Paddy Harding goal. Alas the second half saw reality kick in and legs tire.

Despite this Cambourne were pushing for a late equaliser when Bluntisham got a lucky breakaway third goal.

Highlights included the rampant running of Rainbow on the left wing; Higgins weaving neo-classical patterns in midfield; the electric pace and laughter of Watts; the encouragement and advice given by Hope Harrison to his father and Wood not being sent off. Cambourne Player manager Sanders said after the game that he had thought the performance of his players was “alright considering” and that he may now have to rethink his plan of putting down some of the older ones.

Spectators were impressive in their numbers if not in their chanting. The Big Match programme produced by T. Whitbread was outstanding.
